Building a post-colonial Macau.br/ Downtown Macau,1987. Macau is still a Portuguese territory yet this billboard is written entirely in Chinese without a word of Portuguese. It promotes yet another high-rise residential building for the rapidly expanding Macau. Just how interested are the 3 passers-by? As a resident in Macau from 1985-1987, I witnessed and photographed the changes, the urban growth and the cultural evolution taking place. Since the 80rsquo;s Macaursquo;s growth has been phenomenal. According to the IMF, it will overtake Qatar to have the world's highest per-capita GDP by 2020.
