Lumbini, birthplace of Buddha, Nepal, 10 October 2018
Stalls at Lumbini's local market sell everything from brinjals to bangles, from spices to sweets.
The Hindu Durga Puja festival, known as Dashain starts today in Nepal. In the local market, villagers are buying posters of the super-powerful, 9-armed female divinty alongside their chicken, vegetables and fish.
During Dashain, Durga is worshipped in ten incarnations - Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata,
Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, Mahakali and Durga, with one incarnation worshipped each day during the 10-day festivity.
I was glad to find my favourite « colours » stall first discovered during my 2011 visit.
These photographs are part of my Lumbini « off-assignment » selection.
Lumbini is one of the major destinations on my « In the Footsteps of Buddha » photographic assignment for UNESCO / Alliance.
