Le Diamant, Martinique 2024

The Grande Anse du Diamant beach is one of Martinique's best-known beaches, together with the diamond-shaped rock which faces it, it features on many of the picture postcards available at souvenir shops across the island. A place of dreams with coconut palms swaying in the soft tropical breeze and white sand beaches.

That was before Hurricane Beryl attacked Le Diamant and other resorts in the south of the island on 1 July causing extensive damage to the coastline and impacting the lives of many of its residents.

6 weeks later when I visited, I found this once idyllic beach still littered with fallen coconut palms and uprooted branches despite the fact that much had already been cleaned up.

Nature has a way, signs of new life, new leaves are appearing.

This video features scenes I photographed along the beach and up on the hill overlooking Le Diamant.

And in case you're wondering, it’s still magic.
