This series of "proskinitari" was taken in different parts of Greece over the last 20 years. Proskiniari, roadside " iconostais" or shrines dotted around the Greek landscape, frequently on hairpin bends as a prayer for those loved ones who met with untimely death at that particular spot, a kind of dollhouse for the dead, a letterbox where lost souls may rest. The Chinese burn banknotes from hell to accompany their dearly departed, the Greeks have a preference for often tacky icons, devotional images, plastic flowers and oil lamps.
